Google Pixel watch comes offering lots of expectations. And, it succeeds in achieving them too.

Finally, it’s the end of long years of waiting for the Pixel fans! The Wear OS by Google, previously Android Wear, has been around since 2014, powering many smartwatches. Now, it takes up the mission for its own sibling brand. Therefore obviously, Google Pixel watch, the brand’s first smartwatch comes in with lots of expectations about it.

While 41mm is the only available size (height of 12.3mm) for the watch, it has a wide range of band styles and colors. Between the circular display and the metal chassis, its black bezel is remarkably thick. The 1.2-inch screen (450 pixels x 450 pixel) can show you only a limited amount of text on the display.

The screen is made out of 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen and boasts a 320ppi AMOLED display with DCI-P3 colour. The screen can reach up to 1000 nits of brightness, and the display is always-on so that you can always check the time or notifications easily.

The chrome crown is flush with the edge of the watch. The well concealed button just above the crown, gives access to apps on a quick press and to Google Assistant on a long press. You get some pre-loaded watch faces and you can choose more from the Google Watch App with your paired phone.

To access the watch face options, hold your finger down on the screen until the menu appears. The stainless-steel body made of 80% recycled steel, has two microphone holes and a long speaker slot. The smartwatch is rated for depths of up to 50 meters in water.

Among the various options for the straps, woven, stretch, active, double-tone leather and crafted Leather will be available initially, and the metal mesh and metal link versions maybe introduced later. The matte black case comes with the obsidian active band, the champagne gold case is paired with the hazel active band, and the Polished Silver case has either the charcoal active band or the chalk active band.

The watch can be paired with any device having Android 8.0 or a later version. The Exynos 9110 SoC along with a Cortex M22 co-processor provides a responsive experience. The new Wear OS 3.5 software and refreshed UI helps in getting relevant information and notifications quickly. You can download apps like Spotify, MyFitnessPal, Strava and Bitmoji etc through Google Play Store.

The Watch supports Bluetooth 5.0 and comes with 32GB eMMC flash and 2GB SDRAM. It has Wi-Fi and GPS services like GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. You can buy Pixel Watch with 4G LTE capabilities by which you can talk to Google Assistant and access the web even without using your phone.

The Fitbit app is used to track your activities like workouts and sleep by importing the data into the app. You can export data like the ECG measurements in PDF format. You get 40 workout modes to choose from and a daily readiness score which helps you to select the workout for each day. On the missing part, there’s no support for blood pressure measurements, skin temperature and electrodermal activity (EDA) sensing.

The 294mAh lithium-ion battery lasts up to 24 hours, and charging is done with a USB-C magnetic charging cable that will be available with the watch. It is quick enough to charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes. At $350 for the Wi-Fi and GPS edition, and at $400 for the LTE this good-looking smart wearable will satisfy most of the fitness freaks addicted to the Pixel brand for sure.
