KochiElectronics design major Cerium Systems would provide customized mentoring and guidance to the startups at the Maker Village in various stages of design and development of products. The move, could provide a boost to the budding hardware startup ecosystem in Kerala.

The Kochi operations of Cerium Systems, a global design services company for the Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) and Embedded Software space, will be inaugurated on June 6. Cerium has agreed to provide customised mentoring and guidance to the startups right through the product development cycle.

Continuing the rich legacy of Kerala in building hardware products, Maker Village intends to create the building blocks to turn the state into the next electronic destination. The entry of companies like Cerium Systems is expected to accelerate  the drive through the development of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Cerium has identified one of their prime objective as to promote innovation and create and enhance the availability of specialised skills and ready-to-absorb manpower, said a statement.

Cerium Systems is expected to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem in engineering campuses through Industry-driven training, R& D partnership and expert mentoring. It plans to set up talent development centres in partnership with academia and help develop industry relevant programmes and working on industry projects for the students in Kochi.

The company has ties with some of the key colleges in the region, including Government Model Engineering College, Rajagiri Engineering College and CUSAT in Kochi; MA College of Engineering in Kothamangalam; TKM Engineering College in Kollam; and RIT in Kottayam. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Cerium Systems is one of the fastest growing technology companies and has operations in Vizag, Santa Clara in the US and Penang in Malaysia.

Kerala has already been identified as the best e-ready state in India with skilled human resources. The availability of skilled manpower and better socio-political set-up in Kochi will help high- end electronic manufacturing in niche areas. Hardware electronic design companies can leverage Kerala’s strengths in human resources, evolving start-up ecosystem, high consumption and a proactive policy to establish a design hub in the state. Sudhakar Palisetti, Co-founder and CEO, Cerium Systems and the company’s Co-founder and COO Jayakumar Gorla will host the inaugural ceremony of the Kochi operations of Cerium Systems.

M Sivasankar, Secretary, Electronics & IT, Govt. of Kerala; Madhavan Nambiar, Chairman, Maker Village; and Dr. K M Abraham, Chairman, Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) will be the chief guests. The key members of the executive council of the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) will also attend.

The Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) policy of the Kerala government envisions the state to become a preferred destination for ESDM investments and emerge as a leader in the electronics design and embedded software in India.

The key objectives of the policy are to enhance availability of specialized skills and ready to absorb manpower in the ESDM sector, promote innovation and startups in the sector and ensure availability of infrastructure to promote manufacturing in Hardware and Electronic goods.
