Thiruvananthapuram:  Tourists visiting Kerala should be able to see the state’s Tourism Police force as their friend and guide, Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala, said here. Speaking at the valedictory function of the training programme organised by the Kerala Tourism Department in collaboration with Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) for the tourism police on tourist’s safety, he said that, together with the basic amenities made available in the tourism sector, the Tourism Police will also be provided with necessary facilities.

The Minister went on to say that the Tourism Police should cultivate a friendly atmosphere for the tourists. He added that the Tourism Police can contribute a lot to the developments which the government intends to bring in the tourism scenario in the state.

As part of the Tourism Policy, the government is bringing in huge reforms in the tourism sector. The government, together with the Tourism Department, is responsible to make it easy for a tourist to visit Kerala and return safe and happy.

Tourism Secretary Rani George, who presided, said the main aim of the Tourism Department is the timely implementation of tourism policies charted out by the state government. At the same time, the department is also working towards providing the travellers with a great experience.

To make this happen, the department will make the destinations green, clean and safe. Stating that safety is of more importance, she added that Training Programme is conducted in regard to the same. The Tourism Minister handed over the UNWTO award for the best tourism institution, won by KITTS, to Rani George, at the function.

Training for around 161 police personnel were imparted in six batches. The Minister distributed the certificates for those who completed the training successfully.  P Balakiran, Director, Kerala Tourism; I G P Vijayan; Rajasree Ajith, Director of KITTS, and Anish Kumar, President, ATTOI were also part of the event.
